At Moving Squad, our South Florida packing and moving services are so seamless and efficient, you’ll think you’re on vacation during your move. And while we’ve got you thinking about vacation…
Thinking about taking a vacay this year? It’s gotta be somewhere warm and sunny, preferably with a lot of Palm Trees. Resort hotels and fine dining would definitely be a plus. Nightlife, high-end shopping, maybe a few white sandy beaches – oh wait a minute! You’re in South Florida already. Why not just have a South Florida Staycation?
South Florida is proof that you can go big and stay home at the same time. As South Florida’s top local movers, the Moving Squad has been all over South Florida and we know what this great state has to offer. It’s time to kickback and smell the oranges. Here is some advice from Moving Squad for those who have been there but haven’t had a chance to have done that and what to pack when you get there.
Romantic South Florida Staycation
South Florida staycations are not only about re-acquainting yourself with South Florida, they’re also about re-acquainting yourself with the one you love. Some Florida destinations were just made for romance. Here are some destinations that really explore the “heart” of South Florida.
If fine architecture is more your speed than techno-culture, the Brazilian Resort in Palm Springs is a breathtaking step back in time. Tucked away in a private residential area, this Spanish Colonial themed resort hotel has old world charm, but that’s not to say it doesn’t come with some New World perks. The hotel offers a complimentary beach experience complete with a chauffeured Mercedes Benz ride, beach chairs and umbrellas set up before your arrival, and a fully stocked beach bag. Hopefully, it has some really strong sunscreen in it as well.
East (Downtown Miami, adjacent to Brickell City Center)
No hideaway at the East – this resort is for the seen and be seen – together ideally- the East is as romantic as it is glamourous. Sipping cocktails on the rooftop bar while sharing Asian tapas and listening to international DJs is more the rule than the exception. Guests can enjoy intimate dinners on the outdoor patios of Quinta de Huella and choose from four pool experiences on the 20,000-foot deck: lap pool, spa pool, jacuzzi, plunge pool or hot tub.
A Family Staycation in South Florida
If you have members of your family who are too young to sip cocktails, there is more to South Florida than and romantic dinners for two. South Florida is full of beautiful natural scenery and entertainment for children of all ages. Here are a couple of things to do in Florida if your family has more than a couple of members.
Everglades Family Adventure
They say you haven’t really lived in Southern Florida until you’ve lived to spot a gator, and one of the best (and safest) ways to do that is on the Everglade Family Adventure. Complete with alligator shows, airboat rides and wildlife encounters, gator spottings have never been more family friendly.
Once your back on land, diffuse with a hilarious alligator show from Animal Planet’s The Gator Boys. The crew is always happy to sign autographs and field questions from the audience.
Fort Lauderdale Beach
Frankie and Annette may have put Fort Lauderdale Beach on the map as a spring break destination, but those days are long gone. Now that the last beer has floated off to sea and the cries of, “Let’s party” have died out, the time is right for family friendly fun on the beach
These days, Fort Lauderdale has transformed itself into a family destination, with hotels located across State Rt.A1A, away from the uninterrupted strand of white and turquoise. It has done South Florida proud by earning the Blue Wave Status for clean water, nearby emergency care, and environmental preservation. It seems Fort Lauderdale Beach has really cleaned up its act. Choose it as a destination for your South Florida Staycation and be sure to check out the promenade for shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues.
Packing for a South Florida Staycation
The Moving Squad may not do much packing for South Florida Staycations, but we do know a little about packing and a lot about South Florida. Here are some things we recommend you think about when you’re packing for your Staycation:
Luggage: Since you’re not boarding a plane, your luggage options are unlimited. Moving Squad suggests you consider:
- Roller bags: maneuverable around tight corners, easy on the back, won’t expand in size
- Backpacks: great for hiking and trekking
- Multi pocketed bags: good for holding electronics and laptops
Footwear: Nothing ruins a perfect Staycation like uncomfortable footwear. A South Florida Staycation doesn’t require really heavy footwear, but there are a few basics to keep in mind. Here is Moving Squads list of South Florida style footwear:
- Comfy sandals: The go-to for most South Florida natives, sandals allow feet to stay cool while showing off a great manicure.
- Jellies and water shoes: A must for keeping feet protected on the beach.
- Sneakers or hiking boots: Sneakers will usually do the trick in South Florida, but if you’re considering hiking in the Everglades, hiking boots may come in handy.
- Formal footwear: Can you judge a man by the shoes he wears? At upscale resorts, the answer is probably yes, and that goes for women as well. If you’re headed for a party themed resort, the rule of thumb is high heels and high fashion.
Outdoor Accessories: If you’re headed to South Florida, there is little doubt that you’re going to be spending some time in the Great Outdoors. Keep in mind, this is the Sunshine State, and it’s a good idea to prepare accordingly. Think about packing:
- Picnic Sets: There are tons of picnic ops in SoFlo, from our parks to our beaches and beyond.
- Beach Blankets: To keep the sand out of the unwanted areas.
- Thermal Bottles: Stay out of hot water by packing an insulated thermos. Hydration is key in the dry South Floridian climate.
